What is It?

Perhaps one of Florida’s most unique and fascinating attractions, Solomon’s Castle is a whimsical structure built by Howard Solomon.  It's constructed primarily from discarded aluminum printing plates, giving it a distinctive and reflective appearance.  Inside, you will find a variety of galleries and the workshop of internationally renowned artist, Howard Solomon.  The ultimate recycler, he used many materials in his artwork and seeing his resourcefulness into turning trash into treasure is quite astonishing.

Solomon began construction on the structure in 1972.  The castle was an ongoing project that spanned decades in the making.

About the Artist Howard

Howard Solomon was an American artist known for his whimsical and imaginative creations, many of which were made from recycled and found materials.  Solomon was largely self-taught, developing his skills and style through experimentation and practice rather than formal training.  He was known for his ability to see potential in everyday objects, transforming them into intricate sculptures and artworks.

Howard Solomon was married to his wife, Peggy, and together they ran the castle as a family business.  Their children and grandchildren have also been involved in the operations of the castle.  Howard Solomon passed away in 2016, but his legacy lives on through his castle and the artwork he created.  His work has left a lasting impact on those who visited Solomon's Castle.  His creativity and ingenuity are celebrated, and his approach to art continues to inspire.

Take the Tour

Visitors can take guided tours that provide insights into the life and works of Howard Solomon, as well as the history of the castle.  In addition to other artwork, the castle is decorated with more than 80 interpretive stained glass windows.  The tours often include humorous and quirky commentary by the guides.  In addition to indoor galleries, the grounds feature a variety of outdoor sculptures and installations.  The gift shop offers a range of souvenirs, including artwork, books, and other items related to Solomon's Castle and its creator.

There are also nature trails around the property where you can enjoy a peaceful walk, taking in the natural beauty of the area and spotting local wildlife.
